Mondo Mondo Mondo!

If you follow fashion at all in Denver, then you’ve had a great two weeks.  The Paper Fashion Show, Denver Fashion Weekend, and the Denver Style Expo all took place recently and it’s a wonderful sign of things to come in Denver.  Now the Paper Fashion Show has been around for several years and is a regular crowd pleaser.  Unfortunately, I missed this year’s due to another gig.  But, I did catch the inaugural DFW and the Style Expo and they did not disappoint.

Friday, March 25, was couture night at DFW and local boutiques showed off a selected designer from their new spring collections.  Alicia, The Boutique featured Halston Heritage, Violet featured Mixie, PJ’s Boutique featured Stop Staring!, Goldyn featured Helmut Lang, and Garbarini closed the show with Robert Rodriguez.  Ben Simkins produced the video segments before each runway show, which did a fantastic job of setting the mood for each.

The Denver Style Expo was part trade show, part fashion show, and one big part Mondo.  Many local fashion designers, accessories designers, hair salons, and beauty products set up booths at the Denver Merchandise Mart for this weekend extravaganza.  Hourly fashion shows provided an additional showcase.  The first annual Denver Style Awards were a big hit, honoring, Denver’s best designer, hair stylist, accessories, model, etc.  I’ll add my congratulations to my friend Liz Vranesh for taking home the shiny Judge’s Award for Best Model.

But Saturday’s biggest attraction at the Expo was designer and Project Runway runner-up (we know he should have won), Mondo Guerra.  The Denver Top 10 Fashion Show closed out the event with Mondo’s stunning spring line and a meet and great with the man himself.  The best part – to me anyway, was that all these amazing people were local, and hopefully they will all start to get the broader recognition they deserve.

Some of my personal favorites from the Expo:

Brandi Shigley at Fashion Denver – I have yet to meet anyone who can match her energy or style

Mona Lucero – on top of some killer designs, hands down always the best music selection for her runway shows

Francis Roces at Kimono Dragons – cool, cool, cool

Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast – Tokyo meets Denver

Studio Yoshida – uniquely inspired

Jet Set – I love the Mod look

Gino Velardi – flat out stylish
